UHMW
Brand Names : Sanalite, Seaboard, Playboard, Duraflex, Etc.
UHMW (Ultra high molecular weight) is a plastic from the polyethylene family. It is a very popular plastic in manufacturing. Its low friction coefficient makes it an ideal material for applications that are subject to abrasion, corrosion, wear and friction. Often confused with Teflon, UHMW (Tyvar 1000) is however 8 to 10 times cheaper than the previous.
Shock resistant, UHMW also reduces impact and friction noise. This plastic is mainly used for the manufacture of machinery parts, guide parts, wear strips, scrapers and slides.
UHMW allows:
- Cutting with a table saw
- CNC cutting
- CNC engraving
- Mechanical assembly with screws
- Hot bending
Sheets are available in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses.
The UHMW also available in rod or tube of various formats.
